The Red Pen
Most editing and proofreading sites charge by the word or page. At .16 cents a word, for 1,000 words, which is only about 4 pages, that's $160 dollars. A story I've been working on is currently at 151,632 words. At .16 cents a word, that would be $24,261.12 !!! <fainting>

Let's be a little more reasonable about all this.

For those who don't know the rules, it is customary to send payment with the manuscript. After you and I have had a small discussion, you will be directed to PayPal for payment transfer.

***If English is not your first language and it is poor, the rate is $200 for all word counts. I have no problem with second languages, I have a lot of cousins who speak French, but it takes a lot more time to edit and fix beginner language skills. Send me ten pages of your manuscript, I don't care if it's the first ten or somewhere in the middle of the story, and I will let you know if there needs to be this extra price.***

***If mistakes are extensive, the manuscript will be returned to the writer for correction. The editor's function is to make sure your manuscript has been written correctly. The writer should know the basics of their craft before involving an editor or proofreader.  Purdue University has a great online writing lab for all your basic writing needs. I highly recommend it. If mistakes are still extensive, the charge for the work will be $200 for any word count.***

My offerings to you are:

Formatting is an extra $50 for any count. Editing and proofreading are not necessary if all you want is help with formatting the manuscript.

Up to 50,000 words: $75
        Follow-up: $50

50,000 - 110,000 words: $100
        Follow-up: $50

Epics and Sequels (Over 110,000 words): $200
        Follow-up: $150

I can be flexible if the word count is only slightly over. We can talk about it.

*Do NOT send money to PayPal until AFTER you have emailed me to check my schedule.
